EMOTIONAL FREEDOM TECHNIQUE (EFT)
magic at our very own fingertips.
Mental health support & overall wellbeing depends on so many factors that are deeply personal to each individual. There is no one cure & the research is forever growing to include practices used in different cultures & countries. With this has come the gifts of meditation, yoga, mindfulness & other spiritual practices that have only recently been accepted in our logical western world. Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) was first developed 20 years ago & has since emerged as an evidenced based practice to treat numerous emotional difficulties.
EFT is a counselling technique that combines elements of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Exposure Therapy, & Somatic Stimulation using Accupressure Points. EFT is an ‘emotional version of acupuncture without the needles’. It includes stimulating acupuncture points by tapping when being supported to think about a feared memory or event. whilst also being encouraged to reframe thoughts & narrative with a self-acceptance statement.
It is based on the understanding that all illnesses have an emotional component & that emotions are ‘energy in motion’. The technique is based on the concept that when energy gets stuck in the body, symptoms appear. By moving the energy through the body’s meridian system by tapping while tuning into the source of the blockage, the symptoms (which can be negative emotions, blocking beliefs, or physical pain for example), diminish or disappear.
What conditions can be treated with EFT?
To date, there are a number of empirical studies that suggest that EFT is suitable for:
Specific Phobias
Anxiety
Depression
PTSD and Trauma
School related Anxiety
How many sessions do you need?
Emotional Freedom Technique can be offered as a one off treatment. The research does however suggest that clients report significantly better results if they engage for three and six sessions. Once the technique has been learnt, it can be used again and again if symptoms of anxiety, stress, or depression are re-triggered. In this respect, it is a powerful self-help tool.
WHERE ARE THESE SESSIONS DONE?
EFT sessions are all done via zoom from the comfort of your own home.
